환상적인 얼음동굴(ICE CAVE) 사진

구글(Google)에서 자료를 찾다가 우연히 환상적인 사진을 보게되었습니다.

그래서 사진에 대한 정보를 확인하여 위하여 여러가지 검색을 시도하여 구체적인 정보를 찾게되었습니다.

사진의 이름은 얼음동굴(ICE Cave) 였고 러시아 캄차가 반도에서 촬영되었으며 이 사진이 지구과학의 날 사진에 선정되었던 것도 알게되었습니다.

In the incredible photo by Marc Szeglat (taken Sept. 12, 2012), we see a surreal-looking ice cave on the Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia. It was formed by a stream flowing from the hot springs associated with the Mutnovsky Volcano. This stream flows beneath glacial ice on the flanks of Mutnovsky. Because glaciers on Kamchatka volcanoes have been melting in recent years, the roof of this cave is now so thin that sunlight penetrates through it, eerily illuminating the icy structures within.

The Kamchatka Peninsula is a 1,250-kilometre (780 mi) peninsula in the Russian Far East, with an area of about 270,000 km2 (100,000 sq mi). It lies between the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Sea of Okhotsk to the west. The Kamchatka peninsula contains the volcanoes of Kamchatka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This photo was also recently recognized as one of the Earth Science Picture of the Day’s “Best of 2012, Viewer’s Choice”

This cold but true blue heart was photographed from the inside of one of the ice caves near Grand Island, Michigan. The cleverly composed opening is outlined by the cave's sculpted (by melting) ceiling and is fringed by altocumulus clouds. Ice caves form when lake water, in this case Lake Superior, freezes over. Big waves breaking ashore and a long cold spell are the primary ingredients for ice cave formation. Photo taken in February 2014.
